A special project using lost-wax casting in bonze to make a scale 1:8 model. Lost-wax casting in bronze is used to make artifacts in China since Shuan Dynasty around 3,000 years ago. Using a wax model dipped with ceramic to form the mould wall, it is then heated to vaporize the wax creating a cavity inside the mould wall. Molten bronze is poured into the cavity and it is solidified, the bronze object is taken out by breaking the ceramic mould. It takes months to make a piece of this scale 1:8 model. The model is coated with “urusi” (natural lacquer): a popular protective coating used in ancient time of which the material itself is very stable that can last thousands of years under indoor condition. The model measures 58 cm long (23 inches) and it weights 22 kgs. (48 lbs). Only four pieces made.
